Overview
The Widow is a required Act 1 boss in Hollow Knight: Silksong, serving as the guardian above Bellhart. As a spider-type boss, she combines web-based traps with venomous attacks, creating a fight that tests your spatial awareness as much as your combat skills. The Widow is boss #10 in the game's progression and must be defeated to advance the main story.

How to Reach the Widow
The Widow is found above Bellhart, accessible via the Shellwood top path:
- Progress through Shellwood until you reach the upper paths
- Take the top path that leads above Bellhart
- The Widow's arena is in the area above Bellhart
The arena has a web-themed design that plays into the boss's mechanics — pay attention to the environment.
Attack Patterns
Web Spread
The Widow casts webs across sections of the arena floor and walls. Stepping on these webs slows Hornet significantly, leaving you vulnerable to follow-up attacks. Watch where webs land and avoid them. You can cut through webs with your Nail, but it takes a moment.
Venom Spit
The Widow spits venom projectiles in an arc. These leave lingering poison pools on the ground. Jump over the projectiles and avoid the pools. The pools dissipate after a few seconds, so keep moving and don't backtrack into them.
Pounce
A quick leap attack where the Widow launches herself at Hornet. The wind-up is brief — she crouches low before springing. Dash to the side when you see her crouch. This attack has a recovery window afterward.
Thread Snare
The Widow shoots a single silk thread at Hornet. If it connects, you're pulled toward the Widow for a guaranteed follow-up attack. Dash sideways the moment you see the thread extend. This is her most dangerous attack if it lands.
Brood Summon
The Widow summons small spiderlings that scurry across the arena. They're individually weak but can overwhelm you if ignored. Clear them quickly with wide swings or area tools. They sometimes drop Silk when killed.
Web Cocoon (Phase 2)
In Phase 2, the Widow retreats to the ceiling and encases herself in a cocoon, sending waves of spiderlings while she regenerates health. You need to cut the cocoon threads to bring her back down — use ranged tools or upward strikes to reach the threads.
Battle Strategy
Arena Management
The Widow fight is fundamentally about controlling space. Webs and poison pools steadily reduce your safe movement area. Prioritize cutting webs whenever you have downtime, and avoid backing into corners where both hazards accumulate.
Punish the Pounce
The Pounce is your best damage window. After the Widow lands from her leap, she has a notable recovery period. Dash to the side, then rush in for 3-4 hits before she recovers. This is where most of your damage should come from.
Avoid the Thread Snare
Getting pulled into the Widow is often lethal. Always be ready to dash sideways. If you do get caught, mash to break free as quickly as possible and immediately Bind for health if needed.
Phase 2: Cut the Cocoon
When she retreats to the ceiling, ignore the spiderlings initially and focus on cutting her cocoon threads. Ranged tools work best here. The longer she stays in the cocoon, the more health she regenerates. Get her down fast.

Rewards
Defeating the Widow advances the main story of Act 1 and opens the path forward from Bellhart toward the Blasted Steps and beyond. The Widow also contributes to the Hunter's Journal.
Wrapping Up
The Widow is a fight about space control and timing. Keep the arena clean of webs, punish her pounce recovery, and bring ranged tools for the cocoon phase. She's challenging but fair — once you respect her Thread Snare and manage the arena hazards, the fight becomes a satisfying dance of dodge-and-strike.
Clear the web, Hunter. Bellhart is counting on you.
