Overview
Nyleth is the climactic boss of Act 3 in Hollow Knight: Silksong and one of the most challenging encounters in the entire game. This massive creature guards the Grand Gate area and must be defeated as part of the Heart of the Woods objective. What makes Nyleth unique isn't just her devastating attacks — it's the arena itself, which transforms mid-fight into a vertical wall-jumping gauntlet that tests every skill you've acquired throughout your journey.

This is a memory fight, meaning you fight Nyleth in a version of the past. Make sure you're fully prepared before entering, as the fight demands precision platforming alongside combat mastery.
How to Reach Nyleth
Nyleth is located southwest of the Grand Gate in Shellwood. To reach her, you'll need:
- Silk Soar — Required to access the Grand Gate section of Shellwood
- Elegy of the Deep — Needed to progress beyond the gate
- Defeat Shrine Guardian Seth — This boss guards the path directly before Nyleth's arena
Before entering the fight, activate the bench to the right of the elevator shaft. It costs 15 Rosaries on your first visit. This is your respawn point if you fall, so don't skip it.
Attack Patterns
Slime Projectiles
Visual Cue: Nyleth leans back quickly, then opens her mouth.
Nyleth fires balls of yellow slime in multiple directions across the arena. The simplest dodge is to position yourself on the opposite wall from where she's positioned and find the gaps between the projectiles. Wall jump in place to stay safe between the gaps.
Thorn Spheres
Visual Cue: Streams of smoke rise from the ground.
Nyleth summons spheres covered in thorns that shoot up from the ground, then fall back down. Watch for the smoke — it marks exactly where the spheres will emerge. Simply stay away from those positions.
Arena Charge
Visual Cue: Nyleth crouches sideways for a moment.
This is one of her most dangerous attacks. Nyleth charges across to the other side of the arena, removing thorns from the side she came from and creating new thorns on the opposite side. If the platform is still intact, jump to avoid the charge. Once the platform collapses, you need to both dodge her charge and quickly transfer to the opposite wall.
Head Swing
Visual Cue: Nyleth swings her head violently.
A fast close-range attack triggered when you get too close. The stems on her head swing violently. You'll likely need to double jump and glide away before re-engaging. This punishes overly aggressive play.
Nova Blast (Phase 2 Only)
Visual Cue: Nyleth opens her mouth and emits a bright light.
Her most powerful attack, only used after the platform collapses. Nyleth channels energy before unleashing a massive nova of light covering a huge portion of the arena. The only safe spot is the wall on the opposite side of where she's positioned. Get there immediately when you see the telegraph.
Battle Strategy
Phase 1: The Platform
When the fight begins, you'll start on a platform that lets you get close to Nyleth. This is your best damage window in the entire fight. Go all-out here — use your strongest attacks and deploy tools like Cogflies immediately, as the close proximity maximizes their damage.
The platform will eventually collapse, permanently changing the fight's dynamics. Every bit of damage you deal here saves you from having to deal it during the much harder Phase 2.
Phase 2: Wall-Jumping Combat
Once the platform falls, thorns cover the bottom of the arena, and you must rely entirely on wall jumps to stay alive. Here's the core strategy:
- Stay on the opposite wall from Nyleth at all times — that side won't have thorns
- Wall jump constantly to prevent falling into the thorns below
- Double jump toward Nyleth to attack, deal damage quickly, then retreat
- When Nyleth charges to the other side, immediately move to the wall she came from
This is a war of attrition. Don't get greedy — a few hits per approach is enough. Consistency beats aggression.
Recommended Build
Silk Skills
- Pale Nails — The ranged skill is ideal for this arena since getting close is risky
- Thread Storm — Another strong option for dealing damage from a distance
Tools
- Conchcutter — Projectiles that ricochet around the arena; Nyleth's large size means she gets hit multiple times per throw
- Voltvessels — Excellent for exploiting Nyleth's positioning throughout the fight
- Volt Filament — Pairs well with either Pale Nails or Thread Storm for extra damage
- Fractured Mask or Warding Bell — For survivability
Crests
- Witch Crest — Silk Bind provides additional damage that takes advantage of Nyleth's positioning
- Architect Crest — Alternative aggressive build that lets you carry 3 Red Tools, perfect since Nyleth is mostly stationary. You can craft tools on the spot but lose access to your Silk Skill
Pro Tips
- Nyleth is mostly stationary, making her an easy target for projectile-based tools
- Use the Architect Crest build if you're comfortable without Silk Skills — the tool barrage is devastating
- Learn the Audio cues for each attack; visual cues can be hard to read while wall-jumping
- If you're struggling with the wall-jumping, practice in other areas first to build muscle memory
- Cogflies are extremely effective during Phase 1 when you can stay close
Rewards
Defeating Nyleth grants you the Pollen Heart, a key item required to progress the Heart of the Woods storyline and advance toward the true ending of Silksong.
Wrapping Up
Nyleth is a fight that combines Silksong's platforming DNA with its boss combat in a way no other encounter does. The collapsing platform is the turning point — if you can stay calm, stick to the opposite wall, and pick your attack windows carefully, you'll prevail. Don't rush it. Wall jump, stay patient, and let your tools do the heavy lifting.
Good luck, Hunter. The Heart of the Woods awaits.
