Lost Lace in Hollow Knight Silksong

Overview

Lost Lace is the Void-possessed form of Lace and the true final boss of Hollow Knight: Silksong, fought at the very bottom of The Abyss during Act 3. She is widely considered the hardest boss in the game — faster, more aggressive, and far less predictable than any previous encounter with Lace. If you thought the Cradle fight was intense, Lost Lace takes everything up several notches with constant teleportation, Void-based attacks, and punishing combo chains.

This is boss #48 in the game's progression and the final challenge standing between Hornet and the true ending.

How to Reach Lost Lace

Lost Lace awaits at the bottom of The Abyss, accessible only during Act 3:

  1. Complete the Forebrothers Signis & Gron fight — Required to access The Abyss
  2. Obtain the Everbloom — A key story item
  3. Descend to the bottom of The Abyss — Lost Lace's arena is at the very bottom

Make sure you have a full loadout and all the health upgrades you can find. There's no shame in exploring for Shell Shards and Silk Crests before attempting this fight.

What Makes Lost Lace Different

If you've fought Lace twice already, you know her base moveset. Lost Lace takes those familiar patterns and corrupts them with Void energy:

  • Constant teleportation — You can't rely on positioning; she appears anywhere
  • Longer, less predictable attack chains — Her combos don't follow the rhythms you've learned
  • New Void-based attacks with larger hitboxes than her silk-based originals
  • Near-perfect reaction time required — She punishes hesitation and greed equally
  • Ground-focused movement — Despite teleporting, she spends most of her time on the ground

Attack Patterns

Void Flurry

An enhanced version of her standard combo strings. Lost Lace chains multiple Void-infused slashes in rapid succession. The number of hits in the chain varies, making it dangerous to try counting. Back away and wait for the chain to end.

Teleport Chains

Lost Lace disappears and reappears rapidly across the arena, attacking from new angles each time. Watch for the dark flash that precedes each teleport — it gives you roughly half a second to react. Audio cues are crucial here; her voice line shifts pitch before each teleport.

Air Riposte

A counter specifically designed to punish pogo strategies. If you attack from above, Lost Lace can counter with an upward strike. This means the pogo strategy that worked in earlier Lace fights is significantly riskier here.

Moulinet

A spinning slash combo where Lost Lace rotates with extended Void tendrils. The hitbox is massive — your best bet is maximum distance or well-timed dashes through the attack.

Void Dive

Similar to her original downward dive but with a Void explosion on impact. The AoE is larger than the visual suggests, so give it extra distance. This remains one of your best punish windows despite the added danger.

Cross Slash

Lost Lace marks an X pattern on the ground and teleports to its center for a devastating cross-shaped attack. Move to the corners of the arena when you see the marks forming.

Battle Strategy

The Core Approach: Patience

The community consensus is clear: play patient. This is not a DPS race. Lost Lace punishes aggression harder than any other boss in Silksong. Your goal is survival first, damage second.

Staying Airborne

Despite the Air Riposte risk, staying airborne is still your best defensive option for most attacks. The key difference is that you can't mindlessly pogo — instead, use aerial movement to dodge and only strike when you have a clear opening.

Damage Windows

Your best windows are:

  • After the Void Dive — She has recovery frames after the impact explosion
  • Between teleport chains — There's a brief pause after 3-4 teleports
  • End of Void Flurry — She takes a moment to reset after long combo chains

Tool Pressure

Let your tools maintain consistent damage pressure so you don't have to take risks. Deploy passive damage tools and focus on staying alive while they chip away at her health.

Crest

  • Wanderer's Crest — The faster attack speed helps capitalize on brief windows
  • Reaper Crest or Witch Crest — Both viable depending on preference

Tools

  • Sharpdart — Phase through danger; invaluable for escaping tight situations
  • Cogflies — Consistent passive damage that tracks Lost Lace
  • Pollip Pouch — Damage over time from poison keeps pressure on
  • Tacks / Sting Shard / Snare Setter — Since Lost Lace moves along the ground frequently, laying traps across the floor is an effective strategy
  • Shell Satchel — Increases the number of Red Tools you can carry

Defensive

  • Warding Bell — Emergency protection
  • Fractured Mask — Acts as an extra life on your last health point
  • Magnetite Dice — Random chance to negate damage entirely

Pro Tips

  • Learn her audio cues for teleports — visual reaction alone isn't fast enough
  • The trap-laying strategy (Tacks, Sting Shard, Snare Setter on the ground) is one of the most effective approaches since Lost Lace spends so much time on the ground
  • Don't spam attacks — she counters hard, and her combos hit twice as hard as regular Lace
  • Stay mobile, use your tools for damage, and trust your reactions
  • Bee automatons can help maintain damage pressure while you focus on dodging
  • If you're dying repeatedly, take a break. Muscle memory and fresh focus make a huge difference

Rewards

Defeating Lost Lace unlocks the true ending of Hollow Knight: Silksong, revealing the full conclusion of Hornet's story in Pharloom and the fate of Lace.

Wrapping Up

Lost Lace is the ultimate test of everything you've learned in Silksong. She's fast, she's unpredictable, and she demands absolute respect. But with patience, good tool management, and an understanding of her audio cues, she becomes the most satisfying boss to finally conquer.

Remember: evasion is the best solution. She's incredibly agile, and reaction is key. Let your tools work, stay mobile, and you will get there.

Good luck, Hunter. Finish what you started.
