Greymoor in Hollow Knight Silksong

Overview

Greymoor is a sprawling, fog-laden moorland located above the Far Fields in Hollow Knight: Silksong. This dank, dingy area is defined by its massive silk mills, feathered enemies, and the murky waters of Craw Lake. Scraps of silk that have fallen from the Citadel above are collected here by mindless workers, creating an eerie industrial atmosphere amidst the grey, windswept plains. Greymoor serves as a major progression area in Act 1, housing the powerful Thread Storm skill and the coveted Reaper Crest.

Area Characteristics

  • Fog-covered moorlands with limited visibility
  • Large silk mills and industrial structures
  • Craw Lake — a vertical lake area requiring advanced platforming
  • Wind currents and balloon-based traversal
  • Aggressive aerial enemies that attack during jumps
  • Home to the Moorwing boss encounter

How to Reach Greymoor

Greymoor is the sixth major area in Silksong's progression, accessed after completing the Far Fields. There are two routes to reach it:

  1. Obtain the Drifter's Cloak from the Seamstress in Far Fields.
  2. Use the wind currents to ascend to the top of Far Fields.
  3. Enter the village area, which leads directly into eastern Greymoor.

This route is recommended because it places you on the eastern side, giving easy access to the map and the Craw Lake area, and puts you closer to Shakra's location.

Alternative Route — Flea Caravan

If you have collected enough Lost Fleas throughout your journey, you can ride the Flea Caravan directly to Greymoor. However, this deposits you on the western side of the area near the mills, which is a less optimal starting position.

Prerequisites

  • Drifter's Cloak ability (obtained in Far Fields)
  • Wall-jumping proficiency
  • Completion of Far Fields and the Fourth Chorus Boss

Key Items and Collectibles

Thread Storm Skill

The Thread Storm is one of the most important abilities in Greymoor. To obtain it, you must climb to the top of Craw Lake in eastern Greymoor. This skill allows Hornet to unleash a devastating area-of-effect silk attack, essential for crowd control against the many aerial enemies you'll face going forward.

How to Reach Thread Storm

  1. Enter eastern Greymoor and locate Craw Lake.
  2. Use the balloon platforms scattered throughout the vertical lake section.
  3. Navigate upward through the platforming challenges, watching for feathered enemies.
  4. Reach the summit to claim the Thread Storm skill.

Reaper Crest

The Crest of the Reaper is found within the Chapel of the Reaper, located in western Greymoor. This is one of several Crests you can collect throughout Pharloom that enhance Hornet's abilities.

Accessing the Chapel of the Reaper

  1. Head to the western side of Greymoor past the silk mills.
  2. Look for a switch mechanism that opens access to higher sections.
  3. Use the newly opened paths to reach the Chapel entrance.
  4. Complete the Chapel's challenges to earn the Reaper Crest.

Threefold Pin

Hidden within Greymoor, the Threefold Pin is a valuable collectible that can be found by exploring the area thoroughly. Check the upper platforms in eastern Greymoor, accessible via the balloon routes.

Greymoor Map

Upon arriving in Greymoor, head to the right from the initial signpost to obtain the area map (assuming your health is full). The map reveals the full layout of both eastern and western Greymoor, including Craw Lake and the mill areas.

First Lost Flea

One of the Lost Fleas for the Flea Caravan quest can be found in Greymoor. Search the lower sections near the mills on the western side.

Boss Encounter: Moorwing

Moorwing is the primary boss of Greymoor, a massive feathered creature that dominates the skies above the moor. This fight is a significant challenge and a gate to further progression.

Boss Mechanics

Attacks

  • Swooping dive attacks from above
  • Feather projectile barrages
  • Wind gust attacks that push Hornet off platforms
  • Rapid aerial charges across the arena
  • Ground pound creating shockwaves

Strategy

  • Use the Thread Storm skill to deal damage when Moorwing swoops low.
  • Stay mobile and use silk dash to avoid dive attacks.
  • Attack during recovery windows after charge attacks.
  • Watch for feather projectile patterns — they follow predictable arcs.
  • Use elevated platforms to reach Moorwing's altitude during aerial phases.

Reward

Defeating Moorwing opens the path forward toward Shellwood and eventually Bellhart. Note that this boss can be skipped entirely if you find enough Lost Fleas to have the caravan travel to Greymoor — the caravan route bypasses the boss arena.

Halfway Home Bench

Before attempting the Moorwing fight, make sure to unlock the Halfway Home lodging bench above Craw Lake. This serves as your respawn point and is crucial for repeated boss attempts.

Secrets and Hidden Areas

Switch Puzzle in Eastern Greymoor

In the middle of eastern Greymoor, look for platforms with a switch that can be hit by attacking it. Flicking this switch opens up the higher section of eastern Greymoor, revealing new pathways and collectibles.

Hidden Path Below the Mills

The western mill area contains breakable floors beneath some of the larger mill structures. Drop through these to find hidden chambers with Rosaries and crafting materials.

Nuu — Hunter's Journal

Meet the NPC Nuu in Greymoor to obtain the Hunter's Journal, which tracks all the creatures you've encountered and defeated throughout Pharloom. This is an important collectible tool for completionists.

Garmond & Zaza Recruitment

Two NPCs, Garmond and Zaza, can be recruited in Greymoor. Speak with them to unlock their services, which become available later in Bellhart.

Enemies

Greymoor is home to several dangerous enemy types, particularly aerial threats:

  • Feathered Sentries — Aggressive flying enemies that dive-bomb during jumps
  • Mill Workers — Mindless bugs collecting silk, surprisingly tough when provoked
  • Craw Lurkers — Ambush enemies hiding in Craw Lake's murky waters
  • Moor Beetles — Ground-based enemies that patrol near the mills
  • Wind Wisps — Small flying enemies that appear in groups during foggy sections

Connections to Other Areas

Accessible From

  • Far Fields (main entrance from the east, via wind currents)
  • Hunter's March (optional side connection)
  • Flea Caravan route (western entrance)

Leads To

  • Bellhart (the main town hub, accessed after defeating Moorwing or via caravan)
  • Shellwood (through the northern passages)
  • Shakra's location (for purchasing the Greymoor map)

Tips for Exploration

  • Explore eastern Greymoor first to get the map and Thread Storm skill before heading west.
  • The balloon platforms in Craw Lake follow set patterns — time your jumps carefully.
  • Fog can obscure enemy positions; listen for audio cues from feathered enemies.
  • Return to Greymoor later with the Cling Grip ability (from Shellwood) to access previously unreachable areas.
  • Complete the Chapel of the Reaper before moving on — the Reaper Crest is extremely useful for the challenges ahead.

Greymoor is a defining area in Hornet's journey through Pharloom, combining atmospheric exploration with critical ability upgrades and one of Act 1's most memorable boss fights. Take your time to explore every corner of the moor before pressing onward to the Citadel!
