Overview
Bellhart is the primary town hub in Act 1 of Hollow Knight: Silksong, a once-thriving settlement that has fallen into disrepair. Unlike the smaller Bone Bottom village, Bellhart is a full-sized town with multiple districts, numerous NPCs, shops, and a Wishboard for tracking sidequests. Restoring Bellhart to its former glory is one of the key objectives of Act 1, and the town serves as your main base of operations for the mid-game.

Area Characteristics
- Large town hub with multiple interconnected districts
- NPCs offering quests, services, and lore
- The Wishboard sidequest tracking system
- Needle upgrade station for improving Hornet's weapon
- Bellway connections for fast travel across Pharloom
- Home to the Widow boss encounter
- Restoration mechanic — the town improves as you progress
How to Reach Bellhart
Bellhart is accessed after completing Greymoor, making it the eighth major area in the standard progression route.
Standard Route
- Defeat Moorwing (or bypass via Flea Caravan) in Greymoor.
- Continue north through Greymoor's exit passages.
- Pass through the transitional area into Bellhart's southern entrance.
Alternative Access
Bellhart can also be reached from Shellwood or via the Bellway system once unlocked. The Bellways are special fast-travel routes connecting Bellhart to other major areas.
Prerequisites
- Completion of Greymoor (Moorwing defeated or bypassed)
- Drifter's Cloak and Thread Storm abilities
- Sufficient Rosaries for purchases
Restoring Bellhart
When you first arrive, Bellhart is in a state of decay. The restoration process involves:
Step 1: Clear the Widow
The Widow boss has taken up residence in the heart of Bellhart, and its presence is the primary cause of the town's decline. Defeating the Widow is the first step to restoration.
Step 2: Activate the Bellways
After the Widow is defeated, the Bellway system can be restored, reconnecting Bellhart to the rest of Pharloom's fast-travel network.
Step 3: Complete Town Quests
Various NPCs return to Bellhart as you complete quests and progress through the game. Each returning NPC adds services and brings the town closer to its former state.
Step 4: Unlock the Wishboard
The Wishboard becomes available after initial restoration, providing a organized list of available sidequests throughout Pharloom.
Key Items and Collectibles
Needolin Ability
The Needolin is a unique musical ability obtained after defeating the Widow boss. This tool allows Hornet to play melodies that interact with certain objects and NPCs throughout Pharloom. Crucially, the Needolin is required for the true ending — you must play it during the final boss encounter instead of delivering the killing blow.
Needle Upgrade
Bellhart's weapon smith can upgrade Hornet's needle, increasing its damage and range. This upgrade requires specific materials:
- Rosaries (currency)
- Pale Oil (found later in the Citadel's Pinmaster Shop)
- The initial upgrade is available immediately; the Pale Oil upgrade comes later
Hermit's Soul
One of the four souls required for the "Silk and Soul" quest can be found in Bellhart. This late-game collectible is located in a hidden area that becomes accessible after restoring the town.
Wishboard Quests
The Bellhart Wishboard tracks all available sidequests:
- Story quests for main progression
- Gather quests for collecting items
- Defeat quests for specific bosses
- Exploration quests for discovering hidden areas
Boss Encounter: Widow
The Widow is Bellhart's primary boss — a terrifying arachnid-like creature that has nested in the town's central structure.
Boss Mechanics
Attacks
- Web thread attacks that restrict movement
- Lunging bite attacks with long reach
- Silk cocoon bombs that explode after a delay
- Wall-climbing attacks from above
- Spawn smaller spiderlings during later phases
- Enrage phase with increased speed and aggression
Strategy
- Use Thread Storm to clear spiderling swarms.
- Dodge web threads by staying mobile — getting stuck is often fatal.
- Attack during the recovery window after the Widow's lunging bite.
- Destroy silk cocoon bombs before they detonate by hitting them.
- During the wall-climbing phase, stay in the center and dodge downward attacks.
- Save silk for healing during the enrage phase.
